i had ear surgery about 4 months ago and they used dissolvable stitches. almost all the stitches have dissolved except for a tiny piece that is poking out of my ear. it's hardly noticeable but i can feel the stitch when i touch it. can i just leave it alone or should i have it taken out?

Although the stitch material is meant to be absorbed by the body, in areas where the skin is thin- like on the ear, it sometimes just doesn't all absorb. The body reacts to what remains like it would a splinter, and gradually pushes it out of the body. So long as it isn't showing signs of infection, you don't really need to do anything. Eventually it will be either completely absorbed or kicked out. Sometimes it takes a bit to happen, either way. If it starts poking out, you can trim up the bit or have a doctor do it for you, or give it a quick tug and it may even come out. If a tug hurts, trim it and leave it be. Eventually it will go away and meantime it won't hurt you at all.

You could go to the doc for advice. I think you could have it taken out if its bothering you so much.

if it bothers you, ask your dr. to take it out or you'll keep messing with it and it will fester. ... otherwise if you can leave it alone, leave it alone.

Just call your dr's office and ask.
