Kissing is a learned behavior, related to the grooming behavior seen between other animals. Kissing is most commonly an expression of affection offered as a greeting or a good-bye. People sometimes kiss children to comfort them or show affection, and vice versa. It it also done as an expression of romantic affection or sexual desire.

Kissing may also be used to signify reverence and subordination, as in kissing the ring of a king or pope. It is also done to express complete gratefulness among friends who are either same sex or moderately close friends to one another.♥

I find kissing to be incredibly intimate. There are a few people I have had sex with that I don't want to kiss, mostly to keep it as meaningless as possible. There are other people that I kiss (either with passion or close-mouthed and innocent) all the time because I love them and want to express myself iwth something stronger than a hug.

Our lips are very sensitive to touch, and kissing is a pleasant contact. it also can indicate what we feel for the person we kiss (love, respect, lust) by the way we kiss. and maybe, because we humans have a poor sense of smell, we replaced the mutual smelling touch, like most animals do, with kisses.

If it's romantic.... because it can be a heart thomping, ear ringing, toe tingling moment, it can be a sweet, gentle reminder that 'hey I care, love you. It's a great way to get and feel close, not to mention just plain FUN if you are enjoying the person your locking lips with. My hubby still gives me butterflies and we've known each other 5 years now!

It probably goes way back to our simian forebears - transferring food from mouth to mouth as a method of bonding.

As to ease the awkward silences. And so people who have nothing to talk about can do something, and have a better excuse not to talk. (Lips are in use already..)

We love the rush of gambling with the possibility of contracting new germs and deadly diseases. Death, how sexy is that?
