Depends on what sort of pillow it is.
Pillows stuffed with acrylic fibre are ok, they just go a bit blobby and lumpy sometimes.

NEVER EVER put a feather pillow in a washing machine - I did that and the damn thing split and clogged up the washing machine and it overheated and burnt out the motor ... Yikes! - bought back memories of my backpacker days.

Best way to wash a pillow is hand wash it first, then give it a light spin dry in the washer and a quick fluff in the dryer after it's been line dried. TO HAND WASH: Plonk it into a trough or tub full of warm water with a bit of "wool mix" detergent in it. Squeeze the pillow to get it to soak up the water. Then let the plug out of the trough/tub and squeeze the pillow again to get the water out.

Then again, brand new pillows are dirt cheap these days ...

I would NOT put a pillow in a washing machine.. If it is down feathers, it will ruin it.. If it is sponge materials, it will matt it. Pillows should have a cover for them that can be taken off and washed.. this is a cover in addition to the regular pillow cover.. If it is a down feather pillow, it should be dry cleaned... I also take my pillows out once a week and let them air out in the open air

I know a lot of people who wash their pillows in their washing machine. When its time to dry the pillow, just put a few tennis balls in the drier and it will keep your pillow very fluffy especially if its a feather pillow.

Check the laundry instructions on the pillow. Those stuffed with man-made fibres should be OK, but you might have problems with feather or down filled ones, as they will go all lumpy.

I have non-feather pillows as I am allergic to feathers and down, and they wash great in the machine. Don't overfill the machine, though - a wet pillow is surprisingly heavy.

Depends what kind, if they're feathered, the best is dry-cleaning, washing machines should use them that much. But steam cleaning might be better. But regular pillows, work in the machine.

Depends on the type of filler. I ruined a down stuffed pillow in the wash.

It is ok to wash just about anything. I have washed old feather pillow as well, I just do it slow and watch them . It is good to do with the flu season and it keeps you from buying new ones every year.

No, I put them in the washer all the time. Just put them on the delicate cycle and fluff dry.

Yes, but they do take forever to dry, and it's best to finish the drying process in the sun if you can.
