I have an artist that wants to use our retail store as his gallery and have us represent him as to what I would call his agent. He is extremely talented and widely versed in many different types of art. He is trying to get exposure and needs financial backing as well as business and marketing expertise. We can do that but we don't come from the art world. How can I find out what is the best selling art to produce so I can guide him in building a body of work over time that sells and has value? Thanks

Paintings sell better than sculptures, but if you have the room to display sculpture as well, they may sell, and will surely help sell the paintings. Silkscreens and any other mass produced forms sell because they are afforable. You want to limit the availability of these items because thay can also bring down the value of original pieces.

I always wanted an art store like that but sadly it is quite limited in our place...lets see....I think anything unique will do. Try asking this multi-talented person his sort of expertise. He could do loads of things alright but he gotta have his own "expertise" people wouldn't want a mediocre work. Just check out if what other art stores near you have to offer then you could discuss with your artist what he might want to produce which is unique. He sure have lots of creative juices flowing and you could catch some ideas from him. You could put up a store which caters to many kinds of artworks that your artist will gladly produce. Well it's safer that way because the buyers could have many forms of artworks to choose from. Your artist could project his "multiple talents" that way. And about the theme you better know your market first and what message your artist want to communicate with the people through arts. It could add value to the artworks.

Besides all the obviously wonderful talent that has already been mentioned (Henley, Clapton etc), I would like to add Leanne Harte. Leanne is one of the most successful young Irish female rock artists around. A multi talented musician, singer- songwriter, and gifted guitarist who’s music appeals to a wide spectrum ranging from indie to rock to folk fans, and this is all due to Leanne’s capability to Rock out as well as feeling just as comfortable in a tamed down acoustic setting. With three critically acclaimed albums already under her belt fans at home and beyond a wait with excitement for Harte’s next musical offering as her Star shines on. I just heard her for the first time a couple of months ago. She will go a long long way!
