They are all mad, if they think alchopops are a cheap drink for teenagers. They cost me £3 a time in the pub!
They should change the legal age from 18 to 21 like in America, this will make it alot tougher for them to get served.
Do they not realise that just putting the prices up will make people poorer, and it will result in more crime, as the youths will need to steal to get their money.
Totally agree with what someone posted, the money should be spent on better policing and education definatley.
I can't her attitude, they encourage 24hr drinking and then try to bump the prices up, this will result in loss of profits for the pubs I think, as people won't be able to go out as often.
What really needs to be done is better training for pub staff, half of them don't realise when it is their duty to stop serving someone when they have clearly had enough to drink, and what the consequences are to the licencee for them doing this.
This is the main source of error!

It's blatantly just an excuse to heap on yet another increase in taxes. The simple fact is that people want to get drunk, the same as they want to smoke and drive big, gas guzzling cars. The Government has no idea how to solve these issues, and certainly cannot contemplate that it should stay out of issues that don't concern it! Therefore, they go back to the tried and tested method of making it more expensive (which has the happy side effect of raising more revenue for them to waste!) All that will happen is that we'll still get drunk but have less money for other things.

I agree and I think the government and all their very highly paid ad visors have a very strange way of dealing with issues in society. They need to look at why kids want to drink so young. It won't matter if they have to pay another couple pence on a bottle, if they want alcohol they will get it - the same with illegal drugs. Educating kids about the misuse of drugs and alcohol would be more affective delivered by persons who have first hand knowledge of the damage it can do long term.

This is typical of MPs. They sell off playing fields to boost the coffers and other areas fro youngsters to hang out are closed down. After all the facilities are gone for youngsters they wonder why they are hanging around the streets drinking 'buckie'.
I don't think lack of facilities is a free reign for kids to run amok but shouldn't they be burning off that excess energy by participating in team sports or other activities.
Maybe we should tax 'hot-air'. Pat Hewitt may not receive a wage most months.

Common Practice:
when the gov, want to inflict something realy bad on the people, they do it in a way as to make the people to blame, here are som examples liverpool and manchester docks was on the wrong side of the country for euro inports, so they use agitators to keep strikng make people fed up with it then close the docks.simular strategy was used against miners, car biulders, steel men, ect.
smokers are being hounded but they will not close the cigarett factories, this keeps the torment going, now drinkers, tee total myself , but drinkers are being tormented by changing the hours to give them more time to spend their money = more taxes Polititions will drive you into despair, if they can suck your blood while they do it. Brits are being demoralised deliberatly, its easyer to feed of us that way. They have been proving there hate of us for years and years. Those under attack at the moment are,Police,Firemen,Education, Christians,Farmers, and as always working class or whats left of them. Postal service and royal mail, and health service. How many enemies are we supposed to deal with. A nation devided against itself can not stand, Politicians live by devide and rule, not unity.

Of course she's using kids as an excuse. This is a New Labour government. Everything is spin, instead of saying "We want to raise taxes on alcohol to raise more cash". It's much easier politically to announce that "were raising taxes on alcohol for your own good!"

poorer people shouldnt be wasting there money on drink should they? i dont care what the reason, the price of drink should be high! I smoke and my cigarettes cost a fortune(£.4.32 a day) p*ssheads and kids can get wasted for less than i pay for 20 fags! They are both classed as 'stimulants' so they should both skin ur pockets! I know its already very expensive to drink in a pub or club, but i think it should be more expensive in shops too. That might stop wino's being able to get hundrends of litres of special brew off their giro's.Kids dont have enough cash for decent drink so the price of cider should rocket!

She's a ****. Just raise the drinking age and be done with it - however, the government can't afford to lose the revenue the 12 year olds generate with their booze purchases xxx

Seems like she'd rather pick on one of the few pleasures the average working man can still afford rather than tackle real issues like illegal drugs, violence etc. She should live in the real world
