Well it's a fast way for transportion but people are getting lazier by the second. The polution is getting worse too.

Personal transport to work/school
Faster transport vs bus or rail generally
Usually cheaper transport for longer travel.
Moe than that, for some the car is:
-status symbol
-proof of success
-mid life crisis cure (always wanted a Corvette)
-freedom statement (teen with a car)
-Attraction for opposite sex (blonde in a convertible)
-Moving van
-bedroom (in desparate times)
-music/audio studio
-HOBBY! collecting, repairing, rebuilding

We live in a small town in regional Qld with virtually no public transport so we need a car to get around. We mainly use it on the weekends as my hubby walks to work & I walk the kids to school & to the shops.

Cars are very convenient and you need a car to get around nowadays. Most jobs require you have a car.
