Fine thread screws are for metal studs, coarse thread are for wood. To hang 1/2" drywall use 1-1/4" long screws, 1-5/8" screws for 5/8" thick drywall.

Either works well. The coarse thread go in faster, and should be used with a small gun that controls the depth of penetration in relation to the outer skin. This is critical - you don't want the screw to break the skin nor do you want it to protrude. The fine thread screws work better for a guy who is doing one job and is just using a hand drill to put the screws in - it gives you a little more reaction time to stop the drive going in.

Get drywall screws, they are made for that. They have a very coarse thread and go right in and hold.

The hardware and home improvement stores all carry a product called "dry wall screws". The have coarse threads and come in varius lengths, depending on the thickness of the drywall you are using.
Good luck.

fine thread does not give a good enough bite to the drywall always use as coarse a thread as possible.

I would use corse 1 -3/4 inch into wood studs. Do not let the screw break the paper on the drywall you just want to have the screw make a slight depression into the paper.

course screws, they are called drywall screws. and they are only about 3/4 " long. and you can get a drill bit that attaches to your drill that will make it so your screws dont go all the way in and make a hole. it stops the screw at the base of the drywall.

Depends on what your studs are made of. Use coarse thread for wood studs, and use fine thread for metal studs.
