I Q of 117 is above average. One of my sons is 117, the other 123.

The man in the US with the highest IQ is a bouncer in a night club. So it's not always the intelligence you were born with, it's also how you use this intelligence to improve your self and fellow beings.

Honeypot,

That's a fairly good score on most tests, but different tests use slightly different Standard Deviations which means that the same score on two different tests does not represent the same comparison to the rest of the population. Also, too much weight should not be placed on a single test score. The link below will take you to a very informative webpage. It has a good graphic of a bell curve distribution of IQ scores. You can see how 117 compares to the rest of the population.
I would say that if you take an online test it will not be as accurate as a professionally administered test. One of the better online tests is available from the International High IQ Society (see the link below). The test and score are provided freely. You have to score in the top 5% of the population in order to become a member (lifetime membership is about $70 US I believe).

It would be pretty average to good. It is on the higher side of average. 100 - 110 is considered pretty much average Anything over 125 would be smart, over 130 very smart, over 140 smart to genius. You will find the most successful people with IQ's in the 115 - 130 range. A lot of people with IQs over 150 are more bookish smart, but may have a harder time with dealing with people and less drive to get ahead because things come easily to them and so they don't develope the same drive to push them. Or they may have a harder time settling on one career path if they like lots of different fields.
I have a 169 IQ and it has certainly not made me a millionaire.

An IQ of 100 is average by definition.

An IQ of117 is higher than approximately 85% of the population.

There is a saying that IQ tests test your ability to do IQ tests. You are better than average at doing IQ tests, but not exceptionally so. Whether that is a good thing depends on whether or not you ever come to a situation where your ability to do IQ tests will influence your future.

okay.. everyone who answered is an idiot. an IQ score of 100 means that you are completely average in every way (supposedly) a score of above 100 means your above average. if you scored a 117, you are among most people that are in college and not flipping burgers (studies have shown most college students in the 110-130 range)

so basically, your average as far as real people are concerned, but your above average when you factor in the retards in society

It's not great but it's not dumb either. Furthermore, IQ does not necessarily predict your success in school and life. But it can be a struggle if you end up in the 70s idiot level.
