there should be a little tic setting for write protection, I have a little USB stick and it has a little loc picture where you can click that little thing and make it write protected or not.. think of the old 3.5 floppy where you could push that tab and write protect it.

Oh! This kind of problem I had encounter before. You may right-click thre icon of your thumbdrive. Then go to properties. uncheck thew box named 'read only'.Press ok. Then the problem is sovled.
