I do find that I do that from time to time. Chris Cornell wrote a song about just this thing- one of the main lines is "The want is better then the have."

If you're in a cycle of wanting more, then you're not actually wanting the objects, you're wanting to have the condition of having more. And those are separate things. It's possible to want certain things and then to be happy once you've gotten them without wanting more. For instance, I wanted to marry my wife. Now that I've done that, I can tell you I have no interest in engaging in polygamy. :-) We would also like to own a home some day. Neither of us has any desire to own mulitple homes or live in a mansion, just a regular home rather than an apartment.

There's nothing wrong with wanting more than you have now, everyone wants a better life after all. The problem only arises when you start wanting more, solely for the purpose of _having_ more.

So long as the two following things are not understood the human race will always be chasing the objects that give pleasure.

1. Human being`s very nature , inherent , is to be happy always.

2. Human beings are not very clear as to how to get a lasting happiness.

If you put together both you will know why we are always after things. Toys, cars, wife , chidren house, car again , house again, yacht , bigger yacht.......

Ok. when will we know that these are not the permanent happiness . ? Only when we have what is called Self Knowledge. Knowledge about yourself, looking deep within. A time comes in everyone` life when they start to seek this knowledge. Then they will know that happiness is within oneself and not to be found anywhere outside.

Easily said than done, though!

yeah, I agree with people's answers above me. There is an ancient chinese saying, the more you are enthusiastic into something or one thing, then you will lost of your integrety... it means the more you indulge yourself into some certain funs, hobbies, interests, then at last you will lost of your mind and don't know what was the meanings of soul or sense ... kind sophisticate to translate... but hope you are not into some kind of materialism, or certain enjoyment of any one of 5 senses. It is very deep philosophy... but you will understand what I tried to say one day... hahahah.. just all you need is time.. Good Luck

Yeah, this is a never ending cycle. As soon as I open a door I know that another door will be waiting for me behind it.

Yes. I call it consumerism. We are lead to believe the only way to find happiness is to consume more and more.
