I always recommend computers with AMD processors. In my experience and my husband's experience, the problems with laptops are typically heat, and Pentium processors run a lot hotter than AMD processors.

Look if you feel this lost, why not stop and pick a PC magazine with reviews. Why plunk down a $1k or more on something your not going to really know anything about when you can spend less then $10 bucks and educate yourself a little. There are many web sites that also have laptop reviews.

The "best one" is relative to what you needs are. Do you want to plop down $5000 on an Alienware and your just going to use if for some Excel, email, and some chat? Really there are many things to consider size, weight, battery life, performance, price, storage, display, and that's just a start.

I would suggest what ever brand you get would have good customer service so you aren't lost when you need help. Also some extra money for a 3 year warranty isn't a bad idea either.

Other things to consider are docking stations(practically a necessity in business if it's your main system.), Windows XP Pro, Don't get a Laptop w/ XP Home or Media they don't have data encryption which could be devastating for a business if a clients information is leaked.

Anyway, I also like Dell's, and Toshiba's.

After owning more computers than I can remember easily, I have YET to own a Dell that was worth the money, in my opinion. Sorry Dell lovers, but every one of them that I have owned has given me fits and their customer service... well... let's just say that I believe it leaves a LOT to be desired.

When you are ready to buy a new system, go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net. I buy all of my stuff from them, and everything is Vista ready.

I bought a complete, new system from them with a warranty for LESS than it would cost me to build it myself or order a custom one from the manufacturer. You can use my frequent buyer code: ATX926. That will get an additional 10% discount at checkout.

I have NEVER had any problems with anything that they have sold me and their customer service is outstanding. Those guys blow my mind.

Good luck!

The best laptop would have to have the following:-

good brand: HP,Compaq,Dell,Sony VAIO,IBM,Toshiba
Best processor: Intel core 2 Duo
it has two processors built on a single chip
Good RAM: 1 GB DDR2 (512 is good for every day use)
Good Disk drive: there are three options:-

DVD writer,Dvd dual layer writer, HD DVD (available in select laptops). Presently the most common & most useful would be DVD dual layer write.

HDD: 100+ GB HDD SATA2
wireless communixation: WIFI, bluetooth, wireless network ,infrared enabled.
In built camera is also a good feature.
inbuilt card reader & tv tuner card are other good features to look for

Inbuilt graphic cards are available if you are into gaming

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I was looking like crazy and finally found the one that was right for me. I bought an HP dv2000t, and customized it to suit my needs- entertainment and school.

I recommend going to tech sites and seeing reviews, comparing prices, and checking out what features suit you best. These are the two main websites I used in my search- http://reviews.cnet.com/Notebooks/2001-3121_7-0.html?tag=img.lt and http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,1874,9,00.asp

Its all about weighing your needs, with your price range, explore those sites, I hope they can help.
