As christians, you guys have a lot of things you consider to be sins. You never tried to make them against the law, you trusted that the true christians would follow the christian belief and not sin, while people of other religions would do as they pleased. So why did you guys choose to illegalize gay marriage? Can't you just trust that those who don't believe in gay marriage wont get married to someone of the same sex? You did it to protect the sanctaty of marriage, but if you really wanted to protect it, you would be having marches in washington trying to illegalize adultry and divorce, that's what's ruining marriage, not Bob and Jim getting hitched, are you seriously tossing and turning in bed because two people want to express their love? They're adults, they should be able to make their own decisions without you guys breathing down their necks. Please just leave them alone.

You wanna know why I think you illegalized it? To use it as an excuse for your homophobia and your hatred, you can say "Because GOD says so" all you want, but we all know the real reason. Any love is fine, it's your hatred you have to watch.

why gay marriage?
they're bigots and hypocrites, all of them (not the ones who are for or neutral to gay marriage). Also, it's kind of hypocritical that bush is trying** to impose democracy on a theocracy, while proposing an amendment based on religious beliefs, while totally ignoring equality (i.e. making the US a christian theocracy)

**hasn't succeeded so far, like everything else he does.

Those among you who have not sinned, cast the first stone.

The only reason I did not put that in quotes is because im not quite sure that those were the exact words.

I think in some, if not all, states adultery is illegal. Just not enforced. I mean, imagine cheating on your spouse, then getting arrested by a cop who's a swinger, then sentenced by a judge who is married yet picks up hookers.

As for me, I have no problems with gay marriage, as it doesn't apply to me. I'm not gay. Plus I think marriage is best for if a couple wants to start a family. I don't want a family, so I am not interested in getting married.

Divorce doesn't ruin Marriage. It is a result of a marriage that is ruined. Spousal abuse and adultery ruins marriage.

And the ones who try to make gay marriage illegal are the ones who have nothing to do except b**ch about other people who don't believe the way they do and make it a mission to make people's lives miserable instead of being a true American and letting people believe in what they want (or in nothing at all). Freedom of religion is our constitutional right.

You guys, if you are gay or lesbian, should present your argument so that everyone would understand it better. Such as stating that your reasoning to be the benefits of marriage and how they would apply to certain situations in your home life. Taxes, health insurance, life insurance benefits, 401 k, turning off life support in the event, rights to property, etc. All of these things are things you deserve. I think the Christians just don't like the idea of calling it "marriage" because their lives are revolved around words. (bible, etc) They don't really think, so you should make them think. Or perhaps calling it by a different name, but it meaning legally the same thing as marriage. ...a rose by any other name...? It would be great to come to a conclusion about this so that the politicians can find another tactic to take everyone's thoughts away from bigger things.

Well you raise a very good question. If being gay is a sin, and like any other sin, then why are gay people singled out more than someone who's been divorced, for instance?

The answer is: hypocrisy and bigotry.

I hope that when these bigots die, that God b-itch slaps them before tossing them into Hell.

Well thumbs up to you for asking such a brave and controversial question. This never occurred to me before, and I think you are 100% right. For those who say it was for God, and they couldn't "allow" it, why not cover it all? Let's shut down any operation and facility in the country that provides someone an opportunity to sin? Let's take away our freedom of speech, because we may use the lord's name in vain. Get real people. Quit making excuses and think about it logically.

A lot of Christians wonder "what would Jesus do if he were alive today?" and apparantly the answer isn't "heal the sick" or "feed the hungry" but wave a placard saying "God Hates Fags" outside registry offices.

The "Jesus is a judgemental bigot" reading of the Bible gets props for creativity and wishful thinking, but zero for accuracy.

In reality, gay marriage does more harm than good. First, it's not natural, i.e., mother nature didn't make us that way. Second, they can't have children and that is one of the purposes for marriage. Third, if they adopt children, how are those children raised with with motherly/fatherly influence, and male/female role models? Fourth, many gay "marriages" are open, meaning the partners have other partners besides each other, which contributes to the spread of AIDS and other diseases. Fifth, if the Bible is true, then homosexuality is a sin and should not be condoned. There are lots of other reasons why it's wrong, but we all have our free agency and can do as we please, at least in this country, as long as it isn't illegal and doesn't hurt anyone. I choose to NOT support gay marriage for the above and many other reasons. What is morally wrong is morally wrong, and no amount of politics, money, persuasion, or other influence can change it.

As I've said several times, Christians Did attept to argue against:

Inter-racial marriage
Inter-faith marriage
the Rights of women to divorce and own property.

They have ALWAYS allowed Murderers to LEGALLY marry, Rapists to LEGALLY marry, Thieves to LEGALLY marry, Pedophiles to LEGALLY marry, wife beaters to LEGALLY marry, Divorces to LEGALLY re-marry, Atheists to LEGALLY marry, Agnostics to LEGALLY marry!

Not once were ANY of these EVER challenged by the Religious Right as being "sinful" but they have fought like cats against LEGAL Gay Marriage by just this argument!

It's simply illogical!

They try to say that "Gays can't have kids therefore they shouldn't marry because marriage is to have and raise kids."
We KNOW this is false!
Gays and Lesbians are physiologically JUST as able to concieve as Heterosexuals...and MANY Do!

You don't hear the Religious Right arguing against infertile couples' right to marry, or couples who willingly refuse to have children!

NOT ONCE!

Nope, it all boils down to pure ignorance, intolerance and bigotry.

im a christian. i support gay marriage.

and theres most definitely a difference between fundamentalists and christians. adultry and divorce-- good point. neither are condoned by the church (or any church that i know of) but all are welcome to come to church. just like homosexuality-- all are welcome to come to church. its a sin, but God said not to judge others sins or he would judge yours. what about the episcopalian church? they were actually the first traditional religion to welcome a gay bishop. and many non-denominational churches are even more liberal.

stop picking on christians. we're not all jerks.
