Teachers should communicate with parents. I always believe in having an open door policy so that any parent wanting to talk to me they can come and see me informally at the end of the day (except the day of staff meeting).
That way they can communicate with you too so you are aware of anything the child might be going through which may explain school work or behaviour.
Teachers should work in partnership with parents to get the best for their children.

Conduct yourself as a professional at all times. Answer notes and emails promptly and professionally, treat students fairly and consistently, have well thought out lessons, maintain classroom discipline, and dress and act like a professional. Do not try to be a friend to your students and parents, and make sure that all handouts, worksheets, letters/newsletters you send home are well written and spellchecked. Project an air of confidence and competence and don't act as though you have no idea what you're talking about, and dress professionally. Keep up with the latest research, and read professional journals and articles so you are knowledgeable in your subject.
When my son was in elementary school he had a group of teachers who I was absolutely disgusted with. At open house they wore low cut tops, giggled a lot, and actually said that if the kids came home saying they acted stupid it was probably correct, because they would do anything to get the kids' attention, like standing on their heads and acting silly.
I don't send my kid to school so he can be entertained and I don't expect the teacher to act like a clown. I am a teacher and I would never present myself like that to parents, children, or others in the field. Act like a professional and you will be treated like a professional.
