Although ten more answers may appear while I am typing, I think the first three answers here are generally correct. Just to smooth out some wrinkles, almost no virus / Trojans / worms have been detected on Macs in recent years. Back in 1998, a fierce one circulated around the world called "Autostart95" if my memory is correct. In recent years, the Mac OS is based on Unix which has much better security options than both the old Mac OS 9 and Windows XP.

Also, most Mac users have gotten away from Internet Explorer which is a Swiss cheese full of security holes. Use Firefox, Safari (Mac only) or Opera if you're smart -- even if you use Windows.

In latest surveys by those marketing guru companies, Apple has gained to 5.9-6.1 percent and growing fast. It is the fastest growing brand of computer. Even if it could hit 20 percent overnight (impossible), that would not necessarily change the malware makers minds about making their stuff for Windows. It's not just the small market but also the small security entry holes.

Running Windows XP or Vista (next year? maybe) on a Mac may give some hope to virus making kids but I think not much. It is not just the OS that makes it easy to get a virus onto a computer. There are many other considerations and the Macs are usually at the top of the hole-plugging group.

Great question! Only about 3-5% of the population owns a mac, so most of the virus software outthere, and what people make is to affect the majority, which are windows users. Its not that they are less susceptable, its that no one writes or send out trojans for them because there is such a small percentage of people that own them

I asked a student/sales guy at my college's bookstore that very same question and he told me that it is because the MAc is too difficult and that they have such a good security gambit that they are tamper proof. Sound too good to be true, but people all swear that they are happy happy happy with their Macs That is all I know. Oh, you could go to your address bar and type in shopping for P,c.'s and narrow it down, I'm sure that they can explain it better than I, just wanted you to know that you are not the only one who is wondering.

Can and do because they are a minority you don't hear as much about it that's all.
