A/ Dame Janet Baker. A wonderful contralto. Her rendition of Elgar's "Sea Pictures" Is my all time favorite.
B/ Kathleen Ferrier. Contralto again. A lady with a wonderful sense of humor. No longer with us alas.
For Cetiic.
Mary O'hara. I can lose myself in her voice when I hear "The Quiet Land of Erin".

Sinead O'Connor, the Roots, Big & Rich.
Of those three, only Sinead is "family" (bi, has said she's "75 percent straight, 25 percent gay" in interviews, but I loved her music and thought she was smoking hot before that.) The others, I just like. Unfortunately, since I mostly love hip-hop and country, I won't find many openly LGBT artists.
I'd strongly recommend Hanifah Walidah and Deadlee for LGBT hip-hop. I like them, too.
