NO, These owners are smart business men they are not going to pay a player more than their value. If you don't have a star athlete on your team good luck selling tickets or winning championships. Why should the Owners get to keep all the profits.

On the surface they are paid too much. I have thought about this a few times...because I am a huge sports fan. I am also an accountant. Being in business for a few years I have learned (which anyone can see whether they are in business or not) there has to be some kind of demand for the product. Once the demand is there then the product will sell. In this case the product is the pro player...
It's basic really. If people didn't pay to see these games then the players wouldn't be paid so much. But watching them run around is good entertainment.
There is another issue... the owner/player relationship. The reason why these two groups are in fights all the time is because of money. If the players weren't getting paid so much the owners would be getting a huge, gigantic bundle of money.
The players get paid so much is because what they have to offer is worth what they are getting paid...
The only problem I have with pro athletes is the length of their contracts. Some will get the big 5-6-7 year deal then go into cruise control and not try as hard anymore because they have guaranteed money.

I could go on and on but I feel like I am not making sense anymore.
Good luck on your paper...hopefully it's not due tomorrow cause it's late.

Yes they are overpaid. And what bugs me even more about professional athletes is that when they do something amazing, they are called a "hero" or even better... an "American Hero". I think that's incredibly stupid. Their ability to play sports has nothing to do with them being a hero.

In my opionion, YES!!! Most definitely! Their pay is totally rediculous! Also, do you see the amounts of the fines they have to pay for starting a fight, speaking out of line, missing practice...etc?? That's more than some people's annual salaries....Let me rephrase it...That's more than some people's HARD EARNED SALARIES. They don't even miss it, because it's NOTHING TO THEM...since they get paid so much. Jeez!!!
