The fence is as truly a dumb thing as we could possibly do my young friend. It's easy to think a fence might help but look at the Great wall in China. It is so big you can see it from outer space but it did nothing to stop the invaders from Mongolia from sacking China. This is a big waste of money. the people from Mexico will still get here regardless of a fence. People are using the terrible 9-11 disaster to justify keeping illegal immigrants at bay. The problem is the terrorists didnt come from Mexico or go thru Mexico to kill us. They got here by legal means. We knew they were here. I live in Texas and these people that come over are looking to better themselves because the US is the best place to make money in the world. Its pretty much the same reason most of the ancestors of this great nation sailed across the ocean to live here. To make a better life for themselves. Can you imagine what it would have been like if the Native people of what is now the US had built a fence to keep those early settlers out? We could best use the money helping our troops out. The fence will be a disaster and a waste.

You are very clever for your age. You are right it was a very good idea to have. It will not stop the illegals as they will find other ways to get in. People are not against Mexicans they are against people breaking the law. My grandparents came to the USA from Poland and they had to wait a long time before they could come here BUT the main things is they did it legally. Israel is also building a border fence to try and keep terrorists out. Lets hope both the USA and Israel's border fences work well. Hope you get an A on your report and that I helped a little.

The War on Terror was the best thing he did and **** all of you who say otherwise...When you wake up tomorrow, be thankful you can still turn on the radio and listen to what you want...
Anyways...The fence is a great idea. Although it will not stop illegal immigration, it will slow it down a little. It is also important that you do reasearch before answering the prompt your teacher gave you...Supporters of the fence are often called racists - bogus claims. I support the fence 100%, but I am not a racist. I am all for immigration as I know the United States is founded on immigration. What I am saying, is do it legally. There are those who then say that the colonists were illegal immigrants. Again, bogus. They fought a war with the natives. The war has no name, but the colonists fought the natives for land - it was simple conquering. Now, unless the government allows us to kill the illegals as the natives killed the settlers, the government needs to slow immigration down by building a fence!

It's just a ploy before the elections to try and convince voters that they are working on the issue. It probably won't do much good. It's political capital. Vote buying. If they really wanted to fix this problem, they could actually make money rather than spending it, by fineing employers who employ illegals. Typical politicians

i think the best part about the fence is that the president finally stepped up and did something the american people have been asking for for a long time; do something about the flood of illegal aliens pouring into our country. he finally showed that he is listening to the citizens. you should be careful what you write. your teacher may be very against such a thing and show you their displeasure.....good luck on your essay.

This is not a realistic measure. Mexicans are running from horrible conditions and possible death to come here. A new fence is the least of their problems. I just wish they would pay taxes so we don't feel such a burden in schools and hospitals!

it is a waist of money, the U.S has plans in 2010 to merge Canada and Mexico to make N American alliance so why even worry about a fence.
