First you should not blame hungry poor people from trying to com to America to work and feed their families. That said, sadly we can not afford to support the whole world and our medical system is failing partly by being overloaded with poor people who cannot pay. As far as the fence that Congress has requested. I think they should only build fences where someone can drive across the boarder. In rough places in the desert where they can only walk across we should use laser beams, infrared, and sound sensing equipment to detect people crossing so we can stop them.. As you are only in the 4th grade ask your mom or dad to explain how these things can work.. good luck on your report.

Its a step in the right direction. But no fence is effective if it does not completely seal the border. I think there should be another fence across the Canadian border also. After all its mostly about the extremists walking in rather than Mexican migrant workers right? I have nothing against migrants, yes the country benefits by their hard work but it needs to be done legally with work permits. If there aren't enough permits - then the government needs to get its act together and issue enough. I came to this country via Europe and had to have my fingerprints taken, a medical, & register with the military and a reason to come here etc. etc. so I dont see any reason others can just walk in and own houses and have driving licences etc. Also I would instruct private industry to develope a machine that was 1/2 mile long that could excavate, lay a foundation and erect a viable barrier - all in one continuous motion, so it wouldnt take forever. It would cost a lot, but we are already spending a ton of money on the problem. Good luck with your project : )

Good luck on your report Jamie. Here is just one simple reason that the border fence is at least a start. We HAVE to know who is entering our country for our own security. When a person comes here legally, they go through criminal checks and health checks. When they enter illegally, none of these checks are done.Criminals are crossing our border as well as those who have diseases that have all but been non existent in this country for a long time.TB is on the rise as is cases of leprosy, which we haven't seen in ages.Kinda like when a school locks the doors during the day, they don't want just anyone entering the school as they don't know what that person is going to do once they get in.There are many, many reasons that we just can't let anyone who feels like it cross the border into our country, this is just one example.Having a fence across the entire border would be an even better idea, but we will take what we can get for now.

Jamie your letter is more coherant and polite than most of the adults on this site. I agree that the Border Fence Act is important but we need to go farther. Illigal immigration is not good for this country. Yes, I know, that they come for the jobs but I also know they cause problems with education, welfare, and medical care. I live in the Dallas area and just 2 days ago there was an accident. A young woman dashed out into traffic and was hit by a car. The person in the car fled the scene. This was the pedestrians fault and there were witnesses saying that. The person driving would not have been in trouble. But he took off. This made it a hit and run. Now he is in trouble. Why did he run? He was an illegal immigrant and did not have insurance. So now they have caught him and he is in trouble. The young woman died as a result of her stupidity but the person who hit her will be going to jail for his stupidity and then he will be deported. So he still loses. If he had stayed and helped her he would have gotten a ticket for no insurance and would have been let go. So he cost us the money to search for him and he cost himself his good life in the US. This is just one example of what illegal immigration does not only to this country but to the immigrant himself. It is not good for people to have to hide all the time. Good luck in school and I hope you collect many answers to help with your essay.

Don't get too excited about the fence, the President did sign the bill, but congress has yet to authorize funding for the bill.
Given today's political climate, and all the controversy over immigration, it could take forever to actually happen, if ever

You should read this article. It gives you a some information about what the mexicans think.

Personally, I don't believe in the fence. If people want's to get in they get in, regardless of any fence.
What probably also will happen is that some people will get stuck in the fence and die.
Look at the "closed" borders of the European Union. Many people are getting in anyway but there are also hundreds who die every year trying to get inside.

i am glad they are going to build a fence and i think next to the fence they should dig a long, long moat and they should fill it with
alligators

I think it ranks up with one of the stupidest ideas the president has had...which he seems to have quite a lot....
and how long does he propose it will take to build a 700 mile wall, longer than he will be in office...he's telling a few ignorant people what they want to hear, people who think slapping a wall up will end immigration problems. the truth is that immigrants do cheap labor in america, and it we benefit from illegal immigrants far more than we suffer from their costs...otherwise, our government has had the power for a long time to end it...do your homework about proletarians and distraction tactics

If people are fencing inside your house, don't let them board there anymore.
