Your seeing parity in action. I personally dislike any attempt at forcing parity. A team should have to work hard to get to the series. While I don't think a team should be able to buy one, only the Diamondbacks have actually bought a series. It still took them 3 years of insane spending to get the right team to get to the series. The Yankees, O's, and dozens of other teams have tried to buy a series and failed miserably year after year. Wasn't until the Yanks brought up a wealth of prospects and played them while Stienbrenner was suspended that the Yanks made the series and made it often.
The Cardinals are also a much better team than they showed in the reguler season. I was picking them out the gate for the series. About 3/4ths of the way thru the year I finally gave up on them and what do they do? LOL. The pitching staff is actually pretty good. The lineup excellent and the chemistry excellent. Good manager, good fans. Don't think they'll be back next year though. Not unless they are wiser with trades and signings. The team has actually been disolving. Age will affect a couple key players, injuries will blight the team's effort if the Cards stand pat or continue to accumulate vets. They still have enough youth to do something. Molina and Duncan in particuler. If they dump the deadwood and add younger replacements the Cards have a chance at a dynasty. Especially if they can come up with a couple good young pitchers.

Interesting question... record wise, they would certainly seem to be. The Cards had the 13th best record in MLB! They were only 4 games over .500!!!
On the other hand, they won enough games to win their division. Contrast that with the Marlins, the Red Sox and the Angels who won the World Series after losing their division and grabbing the Wild Card spot.
So, is a division winner with a poor record really worse than a wild card team with a great record?

Honestly it doesn't matter in the end. The team that won...well they won. They did and no other team will win it this year. So i mean you can say they were the worst team to win the world series, but if they win they still are the champs. That's why its any ones game when you make it to the playoffs. Who ever is hot is hot. And you got to give them credit. No one has been able to stop Detroit until now. And you cant say its luck, its just the Cards are determined to win.
And im not a Cards fan so dont think thats why im backing them up

I would say that if and when they Win there reg. season record would point in that direction. On the other hand in 04 they had the best reg.season record only to lose to the Bosox in 4 games. In the playoffs you start 0-0 and whoever wins 11 games first is the BEST team. Everything evens out in the long run.
THE BIRDS ON THE BAT the BEST team in Baseball in 06 sounds good dont it?

Based on their regular season record, yes, but if you look at their talent, namely Albert Pujols, I would say no. The 1988 Dodgers didn't have the talent that this year's Cardinals have. They did, however, have the hottest pitcher, Orel Hershiser, that year when they won the World Series.

That really doesn't matter in the end, what counts is who is there and who takes it all in this series, right now! That is just like saying someone was unpopular in their youth but now they are a supermodel or a millionaire, who would care what they were in their past or what their stats were, it is who they are today and where their at now!

Yes, it really would. 83-79 in the reg. season. BARELY pulled it off to get into the playoffs, lucky enough that Pedro and El Duque was out in the NLCS...i believe its the worst series ive ever witnessed, and it has the lowest ratings (could be wrong I believe thats what ive heard) of any WS in a LONG time...

of course not, as far as ratings the networks want New York and Los Angelas always playing in the World Series. Advertising. But if they think they are great and should be in series they are not
