Wow, news on this fire changes so fast.

As of Friday 8:30 PM Local time:
"The Esperanza Fire grew to 39,900 acres, equal to more than 62 square miles, but was 25 percent contained Friday night, said California Department of Forestry spokesman Joel Vela. Santa Anas blowing at 15 mph to 20 mph with gusts to 45 mph kept the fire moving west, away from homes. More than 2,070 firefighters worked to corral the fire in undeveloped brushlands west of the San Jacinto Mountains and a big DC-10 jet capable of dropping 12,000-gallon loads of retardant joined a fleet of firefighting helicopters and airtankers."

Hi I live just a few miles from the fire area. I think our local KTLA TV station is a national super-station and the local news about the fire which is about 70 miles east of L.A. would be broadcast. I can tell you that the normal movement of such fires in these wind conditions is to the west and tends to stay in the higher less inhabited areas. However they do continue to build newer homes higher up near the burn areas every year.
