I updated my iTunes software to the newest version- and now my playlists won't transfer onto my iPod. With the old iTunes, I would just go to EDIT, PREFERENCES, click on the IPOD tab, and check off the playlists that I wanted to be transferred. But now it doesn't give me that option on PREFERENCES, and so I don't know what to do..

all you need to do is drag the playlist you want to copy to the iPod icon in iTunes and the whole playlist will be copied to your iPod. Here are some instructions from Apple's support site that may help you too.
