I'm not surprised that the majority of Gays didn't respond sooner, they are too busy trying to get their answers read first to make themselves feel better about themselves, and yeah I don't speak or write good english, but I speak from the heart and I speak sense. Gay Marriage is a tough decision for the Gay community , they are split, I personally think that I should have the same rights as any other person. I pay my taxes, I go to work each day, I go to the pollls to vote, I drive my car on the same crummy highways that everyone else drives on, I have to buy whatever is on sale at the Grocery Store so I can have enough food to last me to next payday, I buy things that are on sale, and try to use coupons whenever I can remember too. I have neighbors that knock my trash can down every Thursday and park in my parking space. I get gas from Beans, and my dogs wake me up 30 minutes early every morning. I am 'No different than any other American, so I ask you. In you Opinion should I not be allowed the Same rights of Other Americans?

I will probably get many thumbs down for this but here I go...
I am Gay and I don't believe that a same sex couple union, should be called a marriage.
However, I do wish it to be legal all over the Country (and The World), for a same sex couple union to be recognized in the same way as a marriage would be.
To me, the word marriage should be used for 1 Man and 1 Woman.
I don't mind my relationship of 26 years with the same Guy being called a Civil Union as long as we would have the same benefits and legal rights as a marriage does.
I don't know why so many Gays are against Civil Unions.
As long as we get the same benefits as a married straight couple, why should it matter if it is called a Civil Union ?

Hey, why should just straight people suffer- I say the more the merrior or I mean, misery loves company. Just kidding, again who are WE to Judge? I cannot believe our government has nothing better to do with all the terrorist threats, the war, and oh, wait, they should at least make and EFFORT to TRY to balance the budget one of this million years, instead, they tie the courts up with MORAL issues that should not even be a private discussion in a court room, let alone setting precidences. We are supposed to be a FREE society- that is what America used to stand up for. We are having our freedom whittled away from us with each court ruling, and every election.

I think it is a marriage contradiction. Marriage is more than a legal covenant, but also a sacrament, a life commitment, a provision of security for the children and spouses, and more - depending on the couples faith or tradition. If all of society were gays, it would collapse in no time. So why would society want that? Marriage is also a gathering of friends and relatives to witness the union of two people of the opposite sex. If you have a union of two people of the same sex then they should find another word to describe it. It cannot be a sacrament because this lifestyle is in contradiction of most faiths, particularly those that have sacraments.

Gay Marriage is the only reasonable human/civil rights issue that this country still hasn't quite figured out in this day and age.
Here we are in the twenty-first century and supposedly we're such an advanced culture, but still so many cling to ignorant religious intolerance.
As much as the Religious Right argues it, the laws of this nation are NOT based in Any specific religion. We have RELIGIOUS Freedom in this country, which in utilization also translates to Freedom FROM Religion.
Knowing this, we allow:
Murders to marry, even though accourding the the Christian Bible, Murder is a sin.
Rapists to marry, even though accourding to the Christian Bible, rape is a sin.
Pedophilies to marry, even though pedophilia is against our laws.
Theives to marry, even though theft is against our laws and accourding to the Christian Bible, theft is a sin.
Divorced to re-marry, although accourding to the Christian Bible, divorce is not only a sin, but they aren't to re-marry either!
Inter-racial couples to marry, although this was agrued to have been a sin, but no proof can be associated with this belief.
Inter-faith couples to marry, although this was argued to have been a sin, but no proof can be associated with this belief.
Why, if we allow ALL these "Christian" sinners to marry, are we even attempting to rationalize the "Christian" belief that homosexuals are sinners and allowing this to justify discrimination towards them by not allowing Gays to marry?
I'm also fully against "Civil Unions" as this is simply a "PC" way to continue an atmosphere of legal discrimination.
Brown v. the Board of Education ruled that: "Seperate but Equal is NOT Equal."
No, not unless ALL unions which grant certain legal rights, protections and priveledges to ALL couples, regardless of gender make-up are ALL legally changed to "civil unions" will this discriminating terminology EVER be acceptable!
There's a great number of books which show exactly what ways gay marriage would impact our society, and not one of them can come up with an argument against it that isn't based in religious ideology or dogma.
There are a great number of books which argue favorably for Gay Marriage that show reason and logic that dispels religious mythology and societal stigmas.

I think gay marriage should be legal in all states. My partner and I have the same feelings for one another as any heterosexual couple. I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of gays wanting to marry. Who would it harm if gays and lesbians were able to legally marry?

I am for it. I am a straight married woman. But I so totally believe that my husband is my soul mate. I would love his soul no matter what body he was in. I would hate to think what my life would be like if the world was telling us that we were wrong for loving each other. I just think that every time people tell me they are against it. How would they like to be kept from the one the love.

I;m not particularly religious so i'm all for a union of people of the same sex in the eyes of the law.
I think it should be recognised legally if that is your choice of partner..
I'm all for people showing their love to the world.
The modern world is changing. Homosexual couples have been around since time began - its time we modernised to keep up with the world.
and no, i'm not homosexual.

There's no legal basis for any ban on it. To ban it is discrimination, plain and simple. Also, it should be "marriage" and not "civil unions," even if all the same rights are accorded to civil unions--Brown v. Board of Education ruled that separate is NOT equal. Names and words matter.

NO.
I think it would be kind to have a different legal contract that gays can get into to have pretty much the same status for the legal, insurance type things that straight married people have.
You let gays marry, I don't know how you can then refuse the bigamists and every other alternative lifestyle.
