Before, they were either actors or singers or models. Now, you see actress/singer/model/astronaut! All the celebrities get the voice over work in the cartoons now, too. Ever since Toy Story, any animated movie to come out has big name voices. Actresses are modeling stuff in commercials, and now singers are constantly in movies. With so few people taking over so many roles, how is anybody new supposed to break into the business? And then we complain about people being "overexposed" and "played out"......it's because we constantly see the same people! Why is this?

Yes, it's a vicious cycle. A circle of life, if you will...

TV and movie studios are risk averse and wish to follow tried and proven formulas, which by definition means imitating and duplicating what worked before. It's how they justify the $$$ to fund those projects.

That's why the future lies with independent production, the dinosaurs are just accelerating their own demise.

It is because major stars bring profits to movies. If you were to cast an unknown actor in a major film, as opposed to casting say Tom Hanks or something, you'd probably not gain as much of a profit. In the end, the industry does not care about you, but cares about whether they can make a profit off of each project or not.

Because people think names, like brands, sell.

It's easier to pitch the band No Doubt than to pitch the equal band Valeze.

I rarely watch movies, I don't watch TV and all the new music I listen to are indie bands.
