I joined the gym about 4 months ago to lose 20 lbs and stay fit. About 2 months ago, I started taking pilates and kickboxing at the gym also. Now my period for this month never came. I took 2 pregnancy tests just to make sure that it said I wasn't pregnant. So my question is...what else causes you to miss your period? could it be the gym?.

If your body weight drops below a certain threshhold, periods cease

Very hard training and exercise are other causes of amenorrhea. If you are in training and are missing periods, easing up may return your periods to normal.

If you are an endurance athlete, ask your doctor or nurse practitioner if hormone therapy or calcium supplements might be right for you to help prevent osteopenia or osteoporosis.

actually stress induces periods more than it delays them. the only reason i can think of is if you take birth control pills, and have been taking the same kind for a long time. thats the reason why im a month late, according to my doctor. and she said if i miss my period again this month i need to change my birth control pill. it could also be from all the exercise you're getting because working out on your period sort of suppresses it, so it might be all the exercise. and if you take pregnancy test, take it 2 weeks after your missed period, otherwise the results will most likely be negative. hope this helps! :D

It could be alot of things, from stress to infection to malnutrition and yes, over-exercise. If you are on depo-provera, that prevents menses a lot of times, so does some other types of birth control. If it continues for more than 3 months (that you don't have a period), you need to go see a doctor, because then it might be something more serious. (Please don't panic, and take a pregnancy test before you go if your doctor won't provide you with one.)

Your age doesn't matter, its most likely the exercise.

Hormonal imbalances. Have your doctor test you for them before allowing any prescription of birth control pills. The #1 hormone, because it can control the production of the others, is insulin.

If you have an insulin imbalance, low or high, then getting tested will help the doctor plan an nutritional response that can control your hormones. Pills may just temporarily fix the problem.

If you are underweight your body will stop allowing you to menstruate. I would go see a doctor if you are this is not the case. Also, when you start working out vigorously, your body can go out of whack due to stress. It should return to normal soon.
