mirrors and photography are closely related to vanity in the eyes of the Amish.
Some will allow photographs if asked respectfully but often people will just go and start taking pictures indiscriminantly without regard to the people, their beliefs and lifestyle. They do not widh to be regarded as a tourist attraction

Depends on the group of Amish. They are located all across the USA. Best advice is just do research, read books, maybe visit an Amish store and ask them questions... cant hurt. I've traveled a lot and stopped at a few Amish run stores. I know some people taxi Amish around for money, usually to places like the dentist, hospital, etc. They are good people and stick to their own, the way it should be. Very rare in this so called great and glorious world we live in where everything is mixed up. It's a homogeneous society and it should stay that way, outside influence is never a good thing. JMO

They do use mirrors on the side of their buggies. No they don't like their picture taken. There's a couple of different reasons...lets say you owned a farm like they do and every single time you go out somebody wants to take your picture....you wouldn't get anything done!!! It gets old every time one goes out to have there picture taken. That would make me ask myself if there was something wrong with me. Not only the Amish gets tired out it, but celebrities do too. The main vs in the Bible that they live by is Romans 12:1,2 but they focus more on vs 2. They really try hard not to be part of the world and to be separate from it. By takening their picture we are almost forcing them to be part of the world. The world has cameras and takes picture and they want no part of it. Amish are beautiful people and we need to respect their lifestyle, they know the English doesn't understand and if we want to take a picture of them we all should always ask them first, we can respect them in that sense. However some will allow their picture taken. If really not much difference between us and them, some of us don't like our picture taken and most of the time we don't take it. I did send 2 pictures of an Amish buggy with mirrors on it.

Amish are intresting people. They do not use mirrors nor do they use electricity. They do use a motorized tractor with metal wheels with no rubber on the rim and that is about as far as it goes with civalization living wise. They will never try to juge a person because they believe god is the only one to judge. You could walk into their house tonight and rape the whole family and they would never call the cops nor press charges. They strongly go by their religion and stick with what they beleive in never backing down. Thanks for your question. I like the amish topic because i made friends with many of them on a farm in shiloh ohio

They do not use mirrors, this is something that is not to be considered a necessity to them. They live very pure and simple lives. They don't want their pictures taken, as they are entiled to their privacy as much as we are, and since most of America doesn't follow the Amish belief, they don't want to become exploited. Up till a few weeks ago, unless you live near Amish country, no one really put much thought to them, and since that sicko went into one of their schools, they have been a topic of news, but you will notice that they didn't directly show their faces. If you saw a face, it was a side profile. I think I saw one interview with a pastor (if I remember correctly) and you saw his face, but he never looked directly into the camera.

Hmm,good question.I think most of the people that visit the Amish are mostly interested in their clothing and shunning of elecricity and such and not what they actually believe.I bet it was an interesting trip!

No they do not. It is part of their "no graven images" thing. No faces on their cloth made dolls either. Visiting Amish country is a religious experience in itself. I don't think I could live without my creature comforts but I certainly admire and respect them for theirs...above all others.

No mirrors, in fact in Pennsylvania they are exempt from having their photos on state ID cards.
