Cartoons used to be so entertaining. I remember looking forward to Saturday mornings and watching The Smurfs, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The Flintstone Kids, & The Get-A-Long Gang. And after school watching He-Man & ThunderCats. You can blame the direction cartoons have taken on several cartoon shows starting with The Simpsons, then Ren & Stimpy, Beavis & Butthead, South Park, King of the Hill, Family Guy, and The Boondocks. But then again, its a case of art imitating life.

They have gone the way of the dinosaur. It is sad too because the older cartoons form the time before aobut 87 or 88 were pretty good. After that they started to go down hill. There have been a few good ones, but not many. The animation has gone either way down hill, or far to "animated".

there are a couple of sites that have information of getting dvd's of those old 70's and 80's cartoon and even some live actions kids shows from that period...guess that;s the only place to find the really good ones anymore....

Ted Turner and Viacom bought the rights to the Sid & Marty Kroft shows as well as the Hannah-Barbera and HarveyToon shows. If you contact the archive department of many of the studios, you can get reels of them for a week or so dirt cheep if you can get a theatre to show them. But most of the versions that were shown on TV were on the old reel to reel magnetic tape which has degraded over the years and the same is happening to the 8mm silver-oxide film shorts. It does seem about time for a revival of Herman & Catnip or Baby Huey, doesn't it?

I know they were soooo much better than this truly mindless crap they give our kids today. They were cartoons but it was real wit and stuff, you had to think a lil bit more. I think it helped us to develop more into adults..... now it's all fart and burp gags and which character wedgies the other one today. I make my kids watch the older ones..I have officially turned into my mom! lol
