Great Question! I am a huge music fan, and this is a great debate. Whenever I clicked to answer this, the best answer, thus far, was from the person who wrote the bit about Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska" album. That persons list was good.
Here you go:
First off, for years now my friends and I have debated over what the top 5 albums of our generation are so I feel compelled to give you that. Just so you know, we were all born in the mid 70's so we graduated from highschool in the mid 90's:
1. Gun's 'n Roses "Appetite for Destruction
2. Pearl Jam "Ten"
3. Dr Dre's "The Chronic"
4. Sublime "40 Oz's 2 Freedom"
5. Snoop Dog "Doggystyle"
My top 5 favorite live albums of all time:
Allman Brothers: "Live at the 1967 Atlanta Pop Festival"
The Doors: "Double Live"
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young: "4 Way Street"
The Greatful Dead: (pick one)
Stevie Ray Vaughn: "Live at the Filmore East"
I will leave you with that. As you well know, there is no right answer to your question. Last I heard, the top selling album of all time was: "The Eagles Greatest Hits."
stay up playa!

Thriller by Michael Jackson. It had the ballads (Human Nature), the dance songs (Beat It & Thriller). And dont tell me that the video to Thriller wasnt bananas. Thriller was groundbreaking and it put black artists on the map at MTV.
