Im collecting US quarters and I wished to know which letter is the rarest (check front of coin)
P or D
How many are there?

Well it is usually the ones with the S on it. At least the silver ones from 1932-1964. The keys to this group is the 1932-D and 1932- S. As for coins minted after that, all the S coins are proofs and less are minted. As for modern coins sometimes the D has less mintage for a certain year or state quarter and some times it is the P, that is the one with less mintage. With modern coins the word scarce or rare, really doesn't apply. I have no Idea how many quarters were minted with P or D. Not saying I could not find out, but there is no practical reason to do so. If you live in the east then P (Philadelphia mint) are more common. If you live out west then the D (Denver Mint) is more common. Since 1968 all S (San Francisco mint) quarters have been proofs, so you don't see these in circulation unless some one kind of goofed and spent one.

D is more rare than P. S (San Francisco) is even rarer, but I doubt that they're actually minting these quarters.

I HAVE A SAN FRANSICO PROOF QUARTER THAT A CUSTMER THRU IN THE TIP JAR AT WORK....I THOUGHT IT WAS FAKE...LOL. MY DAD TOLD ME WHAT IT WAS.(AND THAT SOME DUMB KID PROLLY STOLE IT FROM HIS DADS COLLECTION TO BUY CANDY)
