A "made man" is someone that can't be touched (killed, f-d with, etc.) without permission from the boss or bosses.

A made man is anyone that the family chooses to run their interests. Normally the only way to become a made man is to kill, that way if you turn on the family you can be burned by the family. They consider it a sign of loyalty to kill for the family. Usually, you have to be Italian to be a made man or better yet Sicillian. Mad men, in general are bosses, or capos. To kill them you must be a capo or under the order of a higher capo or you will be killed for doing so. Assuming you are made, the only way out of the mafia is death, no retiring, no quitting.

I think being a 'made man' means you've killed someone and proved to your boss that you can be trusted. So from then on, you are in on any shady capers that take place. The mafia has a heirachy like any other large organisation!

It's a slang term used by organized crime, "mafia". referrs to one who's been accepted into the higher tiers of an organization. Or, the "Godfather's" chief lieutenants. to borrow the phrase.

it means that the boss decides what you are to be and do.meaning that he made you what you are.and he can take it away.
