this is an honest question. I am a conservative democrat and really want to know what Conservatives think...what is their motivation. do they believe man is to blame for these things...this is not an attack on their political beliefs...I ask this as a political question, but respectfully

from the looks of most of these answers, you don't believe that man is responsible.

I ask this on the political page, because it is a political issue. We need to understand how each other feels about it.

I think I got my answers. It is like I thought. You guys really don't care...or at least the ones that are using Yahoo...but it is telling that I got very little reponse admitting man's responsibility from Conservatives.

If we can't agree that there is even a problem, I fear problems are bound to get much worse...when you finally realize it, it will be too late...it seems that any correction of problems will be without cooperation of any kind from you.

Yes. I think it is mainly because of overpopulation. 6 billion people is TOO much. 300 million Americans is TOO MUCH. If our popuation continues increasing like this the problems will get worse.
Although I personally am revolted by strip mining, clear cutting, polution, etc too.
I am a conservative Republican / Libertarian and also a vegetarian who loves the wide open spaces that we used to have in this country. Some of us do not fall into stereo typical labels. My father was a very conservative Republican, a gun owner and hunter who owned his own factory and he was the one who always drew up plans for recycling centers and windmills and devoted lots of time and effort to perserving habitats for wild animals and planted 76 fruit trees in our back yard.
Most democrats do not realize how much they turn people off with their stereo typical hatred and hate filled remarks instead of level headed thoughtful solutions. They CAUSE people to think environmentalism is a dirty word by their own hate.

I'm not a conservative, but I couldn't resist the question.....
The fact of the matter is that global warming is a Natural occurrence and has a cyclical nature but we are speeding it up by thousands of years. The earth has run in cycles for millions of years and we are the first to ever start messing that up...and no...running your ac cannot help you in the warming stage...nor can running heaters help when the next ice age comes on..we may survive but humanity will suffer no doubt...
anyway...when we run out of non renewable energy sources where will we get this heat and/or cooling....
what I don't get is that if there is no question that what we are doing is accelerating this occurrence (which all of us should know...it is only a question of how much..)...so how do some have the audacity to pretend that we shouldn't care...should I only care about the world until I am dead??? Why shouldn't I care about 100 years from now....1000 years from now or a million years from now?

a hundred years or so ago, the amount of gases released into the earth's atmosphere. Fast forward a hundred years and you have millions and missions of cars, countless factories and other assorted plants spewing gasses out into the atmosphere. How can any person, educated or otherwise, dismiss the effect of these gases on the earth???? that is what Bush and the Republicans have done. It is irresponsible. It is past time for the people of this earth to start planning for the future.

Man is responsible for a lot of environmental damage. At the same time, those on the far left (Green Party) advocate policies that are unnecessary & would bring misery & even starvation to hundreds of millions if not billions of people.
We need to be thoughtfull environmentalists.

If man's footprint is too big lead the way in making it smaller. The environmental issues are an agenda for making not for profits money and penalizing big business.
FYI Supervolcanoes and asteroids did more damage to the environment than we could ever do. They caused the Ice Age. How do we stop the evil asteroids?

i think what most people miss is that man is part of nature. people worry so much about our impact on nature that they miss the fact that we are nature. nature cannot be destroyed. its funny because your average environmentalist probably is also a evolutionist, but they still miss the point that we are just exercising our position at the top of the food chain. HUMANS USE UP MOST OF THE EARTHS RESOURCES BECAUSE WE ARE THE MOST PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF THE FOOD CHAIN. it is our species that is pushing life forward. we are pushing intelligence forward,a nd the next step in evolution while be our spawn. the age of intelligent beings is moving past the need for things like fossil fuels or ozone layers. we ARE destroying the earths environment, we are using it up, much like a baby chick uses the yolk of its egg.

Darn right. 12,000 years ago glaciers covered Michigan and Minnesota. The Indian's campfires at the time released untold polutants into the atmosphere. The glaciers have been retreating ever since.

not sure what you are asking with all those added details... but is this about global warming? I don't detest the fact that the earth is getting warmer, but WHAT are we supposed to do, live like Cavemen? what are the solutions? we are humans, and we have to live our lives in civilization, right?

Of course it is. Those who refuse to acknowledge it are in denial, simple follow what moneyed interest feed them instead of established scientific evidence and/or lack critical thinking skills.
