I have tried to ask Y!A, but no luck.
it does seem odd, though
I found out. You, as the question asker, set a threshhold of thumbs up and down.
If you choose to show questions that have less that a -2, all questions that have a lot of thumbs down will not be shown, unless specifically requested
You can choose to show ALL answers

It means, actually.... NOT that you are snooty. That the people voting on the answers do not find that answer up to par. So, even though YOU personally love all your answers by all the answerers, someone else did not feel that a particular answer was worth your time, highness... As ruler of the world, let the minions decide what you read... OR
You could just change the setting to show all answers. that would fix it, too.

It's not worth the time it takes reading it?
Well, unless an answer is really abusive it's very impolite to say so... the answerer has invested time to give an answer and type it.

Something new they just added: where it says "show" and there's a drop-down box you can choose what level of answers you want, i.e., how many thumbs down you'll tolerate before you don't want to look at it.

It's when the answer is -2 or less (by default) on thumbs up vs. thumbs down. You can change your threshold, however.

One can always reset the levels. Go to your Show answers and select how you want to view answers submitted.

I hope my answer is tall enough so you can see it (thus, it is at or above your threshold).
I expect that all *your* answers - ditto your questions - will remain above whatever threshold Yahoo decides to throw into the mix.

You swept it under the carpet, and it eventually worked its way to under the door.
