Either launch the CD which came with your router, or bring up it's configuration in your browser. For example, http://10.10.10.1 if that's your router's address... The most common is 192.168.x.1 where x is either 1 or 0...

It is different for each router brand. The WEP key must be configured by the user, so if you did not configure it initially there should not be one. If someone else did it and you don't know what it is try these defaults:

Open up internet explorer on a computer that is connected to the router and type in the IP address below. When prompted to login try these default user/pw's

Linksys
192.168.1.1
U: admin
Pw: admin

Netgear: 192.168.1.1 OR 192.168.0.1
U: admin
Pw: password

if these don't work, it means you or someone else setup the router with a password and you will need that. You can reset most routers by holding in the reset button on the back near the power cord for 5 seconds, but i would not recommend that as it will clear ALL settings and may cause you to loose connectivity to all machines.

The router does not run on any OS actually. And you don't need to understand how it works, you just have to reconfigure it.

On most there is a reset switch, which is sometimes hard to find as it can be a small hole. Pressing on it with a sharp object for about 10 seconds normally does the job in resetting it to manufacturer's defaults.

Then you install the CD that came with it, if you have it. Otherwise open your browser to either http://192.168.1.1 , http://192.168.0.1 or sometimes http://192.168.2.1

From there just have to follow the screens.

Routers don't have an O.S.
If you need to get to your router's setup, try this...
Open Internet Explorer.
In the address field, type in
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.0.2
One of these should open your router's administrative login page.
You will need the user ID and Password to configure your router.

Call your router manufacturer. They all have tech support.

if it's a netgear, try clicking on this http://192.168.0.1/start.htm
or http://192.168.0.1
if it's not a netgear, try it anyway.
