Two things come to mind
* You're awakening from a dream that had terrible emotion. You may not remember the details, but your body remembers the emotion and is returning to a calmer state.
* you need a mineral such as potassium. The lack of it exhibits as shuddering although more frequently it shows up as cramps.

I don't know, but I posted to encourage those that have an idea, to share it. I believe I have experienced a shuddering upon awakening but not for a long while. I doubt that it has to do with orgasm, but I've been wrong before. Hope you get the answers you were looking for.

Is it a BAD dream? I feel like the fear, or some other intense emotion could definitely do that to you (and that's the only time I've experienced something similar).
