It's hard to comprehend how America has come to the point of having strict laws to protect an eagles eggs or a turtles eggs from being touched or destroyed or you will be fined and go to jail...But as for an INNOCENT HUMAN BABY... no big deal...no jail...no laws to protect them!!! That's because at least half of the "AMERICANS" in this country have become sooooo extremely selfish to the point of murdering their own children because... "the baby would be too much of an inconvenience in MY life right now so I'll just have him or her aborted instead, after all, THIS IS MY BODY!!! HOW DARE YOU TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH MYYYYY BODY!!!" Well what about the beautiful precious body of your innocent baby??? Because of your selfish choice he or she has NO CHOICE but to be painfully ripped or sucked out of your womb, limb by limb until he or she is laying there, in a bunch of pieces on a table and tossed into a garbage pail. You may not have your child physically there to INCONVENIENCE you but sooner or later you will be mentally tortured, for the rest of your life, by the reality of what YOU actually did. The majority of women DO regret aborting their children. Wake up America...our PRIORITIES are all SCREWED up!!!

If you honestly believe they are only a "blob of tissue" or "a fetus" then I dare you to go to www.priestsforlife.org and click on "AMERICA WONT END ABORTION UNTIL AMERICA SEES ABORTION" to see all of the photos of what an aborted baby actually looks like. If those photos don't move you to feeling soooo sorry for these innocent babies who had NO CHOICE but to die a horrible death, then NOTHING ever will. Keep in mind as you look at the faces of these tortured babies that it was their mothers "CHOICE" that did that to them. This should NOT be legal!!!

It comes down to fundamental rights. The Supreme Court, whether you agree with the reasoning or not, has seen a women's right to privacy and self-autonomy as a fundamental right in Roe. v Wade. In that case, the Court found that the government cannot interfere with a women's pregnancy in anyway during the first trimester and only in limited circumstances in the second trimester. However, something that that is often overlooked is that the Court ruled it would be fine if a state were to try to ban abortions in the third trimester--as long as they had a rational basis and they provided an exception for the life of the mother. In the 1989 case of Casey v. Planned Parenthood, the Court did away with the trimester analysis and instead said that once the fetus is "viable" the state has an interest in protecting that potential life. The found that if a woman waited until her fetus was viable, she had "sat" on her rights and waived her right to an abortion--unless her life was in danger. So, as far as the Supreme Court is concerned, a state could pass a law that said something like, "All abortions are prohibited once a fetus has reached the point of viability, unless the mother's life is at risk." That would completely Constitutional. The problem is that abortion has become so accepted and seen as a "right" that few states would pass such a large restriction on abortions. As for the bald eagle. In general, the government can pass laws so long as they have a rational basis and don't interfere with fundamental rights. There is no fundamental right to crush a bald eagle egg, so it is okay for the state to interfere. The difference is that with a woman's pregnancy, they see her privacy is a fundamental right, and thus generally the government cannot interfer.

RE:
Why is it illegal to kill a bald eagle or it's seed, but legal to kill an unborn child?

Because you are killing the eagle and chick, in abortion it is the mother of that child who's decision it is. the eagle doesn't want to kill it's child, and will only produce young when the environment is perfect, no accidental pregnancies when you have no money or no where to live and no substantial caring parents.
Plus there are more humans than bald eagles.

Interesting philosophical question...in theory.

Abortion is legal because the court said so in Roe v Wade. In theory our government cannot invade our privacy. Why would someone else be able to tell me or my daughters, sisters, nieces, etc. what we can or cannot do with our body. Can you not understand that ANY woman faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to have an abortion doesn't need some old man on capitol hill or some angry mob telling her what is right for her. Or when a fetus is suddenly a child...like at birth? Maybe God only knows...and it is for Him to judge, not others..."Judge not lest ye be judged!"

The bald eagle is a symbol of our nation and on the endangered species list. There are a lot of aminals on the endangered species list and therefor unlawful to kill. Simple and to the point and a much less emotional rule to follow.

well, i hope that i do not preach on this answer, but here goes:
Ever since the bald eagle was adopted by law as the nations bird, people have made attempts to erradicate this species . the animal rights activists have taken massive stands against the harvesting and killing of the eagle due to its low population that many federal laws have surfaced to protect this endangered species, and there have been several "poachers of the eagle who have gotten caught and jailed for this too(to my understanding this type of crime is very very severe!)
now with the federal laws and protective rights of the eagle and toward the bird itself, it is enhancing the growth of them. as for the abortion issue, it is just simply this: MURDER! a human fetus that is concieved by two people should be given the same rights as the eagle but then you have the political lobbyists who oppose this. in certain cases, i would agree with the abortion of a fetus, if it was associated with a sex crime of serious nature. but to just outright go and kill a concieved fetus that is to become a LIFE; a precious gift from God, is just simply irresponsible and the ramifications of the abortion to the woman who chose to take matters into their own hands is very very detrimental and emotionally destroying. i could go onward with this but as for now i think that this is enough. but i do hope that with what i have said here that it does provide a legitimate point and answer to your question.

omg the responses from these people are apalling. how can you value a bird over the life of a human? id kill every bird north of the equator if it saved an innocent life. nothing represents freedom more than the people of this country being able to choose their own destiny and not get killed by their parents because they wernt sure if they were ready to have that child. no eagle could represent the freedom the US truly offers to each person.

Wow thats a pretty interesting question. I'm thinking because unborn babies aren't as rare as bald eagles

Because bald eagles are close to being wiped out as a species. As far as I know there will be more babies. Oh and the little bastard could grow up to be another Hitler.
