Frankie Valli was orig. to play the Johnny Angel/Beauty School drop-out but opted out and the role was taken by Frankie Avalon instead.
The role of Kenickie was also offered to Travolta on broadway he opted out and then won Danny for the big screen. Jeff Conaway has played Kenickie, Danny (br), and has toured as the TV host over the past few years, he just can't seem to get away from the show.
