Is it because they are patriotic, or is it because the song is over and the game is about to begin?

I would hope its national pride but sometimes the performers they have do the song suck so they are applauding it being over.

they're excited for the game to begin and glad the singing is over. Aren't you excited when something you've been waiting for is about to start.
