There is two things that a marriage needs more than anything. Respect for your spouse and open communication. You need to realize that both partners in the marriage are individuals with different ideas and feelings. Never ever go to sleep angry at each other. And talk talk talk. Communication is the key.

You each give 100% (which adds up to 200%). You'll lose the excess due to friction.
Also, I heard there are studies that show the most long-lasting, enduring marriages are the ones where the Husband frequently gives in to his Wife's wishes, and learns to accept that as "okay". I try hard to see my Wife's perspective, and by doings so, I don't mind letting her have Her way, rather than me getting My way.
BUT, I have to balance the whole relationship against the "wimp factor"; my Wife certainly doesn't want to be married to a doormat. I have learned when to "be a Man" by speaking up, standing up for my OWN wishes, and when to just let it go, so to speak. Timing and being sensitive to each others mood is important, too.

The number one key to a successful marriage is COMMUNICATION! You need to have trust, you need to have love, you need to have like interest, but if you don't have strong and open communication, your marriage will be sunk.
