In social situation/interaction, is there anything that is even more important than personality?

Depending on the the location, your physical appearance plays a great role (and that includes your age). I'm not shallow, but it's just the way it is.

Extremely obese people, mean people, and "scary" people get approached less as do the elderly. I mean, hey, I remember when I was 6 and the last thing I wanted to do was sit down and hear about my 16-year-old cousin's new boyfriend. And now, in retrospect, the last thing I want to do is sit down and hear about my 6-year-old's cousin new toy.
