General rule: If you have an equation - i.e. both sides are equal - and you do the same mathematically valid thing to both sides, then you still have an equation.

7x - 12 = 61

We "undo" the subtraction by adding 12 to both sides:

7x - 12 + 12 = 61 + 12

7x = 73

Now we "undo" the multiplication by division:

7x/7 = 73/7

x = 73/7

Simplify as you wish: 10 3/7 or whatever. I'd just leave it at 73/7, personally.

Well, to solve for x u need to bring x to one side by itself.
so you start out at 7x-(12)=61
then you add 12 to both sides of the equal sign so you can cancel out the 12 on the left to make it 0. 7x-12 = 61
Then you will end up with 7x=73
since its 7 times x then u need
to divide 7 from each side. 7x/7 and 73/7
then you will end up with x= 10.43

7x-12=61 (the parenthesis in this case do not matter)
7x=73
x=73/7
x=10 3/7

In this equation, the parentheses do not matter.
So just look at it like this.

7x - 12 = 61
So add 12 to both sides to get rid of it.
You then have:
7x = 73
Then divide both sides by 7 to find x:
You get 10.43 when you round.

Hope this helped. :)

I'm assuming you are solving for x.
7x-12=61
7x=73 --> (that is 61+12=73)
x=73/7
or x=10.43

7x-12=61
7x=61+12
7x=73
x=10.43
