so basically i restarted my computer and it boots up but and the desktop shows (icons,start menu) for about 3 seconds then it dissapears and i only c the background with nothing. i can open task manager and run programs that way. my friend told me to run explorer.exe to bring bak the icons. but when i run that nothing happens. can anybody help me with this? i really dont want to reformat my computer.

right click of ur mouse or press the window key (situated near control key) of ur keyboard on desktop then choose show desktop icons.... if not working then ur window's file has currupted... u hav to re-install the windows... i think u hav win98 or winME.....
try to run ur computer in safe mode... to run ur computer in safe mode u hav to press the F8 continuely when ur comptuer is strating up.. then choose the "safe mode" option...

Is it just your taskbar not showing? Move your cursor to the bottom of the screen and see if it comes up. If so, right click on it while it is up, click Properties and then see that you are on the TaskBar tab. Make sure the box that says Auto Hide the taskbar is not checked.

right click on ur destop then<< arrange icons by<<< check "show desktop icons".

follow his instructions. it worked for me, i had the same thing happen.
