Yes it is possible to learn how to play the saxophone without teachers. I learned how to play the clarinet, tenor saxophone, and oboe without ever taking lessons. I used Essential Elements 2000. The book comes with a cd so you can hear if you are playing your notes correctly. In the back of the book is a fingering chart so you can see all the notes and the proper fingering for them. I think you could learn how to play the saxophone since you have all ready learned how to play the piano and guitar without lessons. Those two instruments are harder than the saxophone. I think you have a good chance of learning how to play the saxophone.

You can absolutely learn to play any musical instrument. And breathing continuously doesn't necessarily mean at the same time. A portion of air is stored in your mouth (puffed out cheeks) and while you use that quantity of air... you take in some more through your nose. It's really not hard with a little practice. And SOOOO may great musicians learned to play instruments outside of their teenage years. All it takes is commitment and practice. Kids in school practice almost every day and it takes them about two years to get good at it. You definitely DO NOT have to master another wind instrument to play the sax. Any Sax player will say that so it makes them look good. Like they mastered the impossible saxophone. You need time, patience, practice, and a good tuner. Maybe find an amatuer wind band or amateur orchestra locally and see if you can practice with them when you get a little better.

Yes, it is possible, but you are going to most likely be learning bad habits that will be more of an issue if you want to continue at a higher level later on. I am sure if you went to a guitar or piano teacher, they would spend the first months (if not longer) breaking bad habits you learned because you didn't take lessons before. I self-taught myself piano and when I got piano lessons, most of my time was spent correcting the bad habits. If you want to learn something technical like a musical instrument, get a professional to help you. Education is a technical field, that's why we send our kids to teachers who know how to teach correctly.

As an experienced sax player, I can tell you that it's very difficult to get started without help....

At least get someone to help you figure out the reed/mouthpiece issues, the mouth placement, where you put your fingers, etc.

As with any instrument, there is no substitute for time and effort. Sax is a little different from guitar and piano given the reed, mouthpiece, actually blowing into the horn, etc. But once you get the foundations, it's actually a very easy instrument to learn despite its' looks.

I'm not sure. For saxaphone you even have to learn how to bite the mouthpiece so it's even that tough. It also contains that spit valve thing that lets out that spit that goes in it. I wouldn't recomend you learnig it all by your self. It just wouldn't be very easy on you.

yes you just have to get a book or some tutorial to learn the buttons to press to get the notes because it's very different from piano and guitar.

you really picked a hard instrument to learn how to play on your own. But if Bill Clinton can do it...so can you.

Yes, you can. But you have to learn....for every action there is a totally complete opposite reaction....so in order to blow....you gotta know how to suck.
