The only problem with the death penalty is that it takes to long to execute the person found guilty.

Complex issue. As long as there is the possibility that innocent people might be put to death, it would seem that the death penalty is a gamble. There is also some question as to whether the death penalty is truly a deterrent to crime. And finally there's the cost of keeping an inmate on death row, through the lengthy appeals process vs. the cost of keeping an inmate in prison for life. A lot to consider.

Without the death penalty there would be an increase in capitol crime. It is in our culture to abide by what is right and tempt what is wrong. How is right and wrong determined?

As children we learn to abide by our parents wishes - or else. When we were kids it did not often matter what "or else" was because we did not want to find out. There were occasional times that curiosity got the best of us. Capitol punishment is the governments way of defining "or else" to instill fear in hopes that no one would want to face death due to there actions.

Sometimes an adult (Scott Peterson for example) tempts their fate in hopes of not getting caught. In these cases the system does not back down by carrying out the judicial process (which I feel is flawed in the US). The system was not set up to give idle threats but to have a backbone by providing the ultimate fear (for most that is death).

I believe the death penalty is wrong in almost any circumstance. After all, there's a list of ten commandments published in the 'good book' that specifically states: "THOU SHALT NOT KILL". It doesn't carry a disclaimer that says, "Thou shalt not kill unless you're the governor of a state, or the President of the United States."
If there is any situation in which the death penalty should be imposed, it would be in instances where government leaders violate their duties as public servants. In that case, we should put the entire Bush administration - and all 535 members of the most incompetent, contemptible, arrogant, greedy, corrupt U.S. Congress in history - on trial at an international tribunal for high crimes against humanity. If convicted, they should ALL face a public firing squad. -RKO-

I know alot won't agree on this but I DO think the death penalty is wrong. ANYONE could change and become a Christian; no matter what they have done in their life. We have laws and need to keep order, but only God is the judge of all human life.

heck yea its right.. the only thing that is not right about it, is they get to sit on death row for 20 years... if someone broke into your home raped and killed your spouse or kid. and they have done this to other people should they not get the death peanalty?? yes they most definatly should.. why should they get to live their life when they commit crimes like that... i live in texas, and the death penalty is very much used here.. i deffinalty agree with it...

It's right. Think of it like this, the murderer didn't give a crap about the person they murdered so why should we give a crap if they are afraid to die? An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. We need to bring back the electric chair but this time make it an electric couch so we can get three or four at a time.

Although I have problems with the Death Penalty overall, some crimes are just so heinous, that punishment is their reward

If you have a sound and effective criminal justice administration system, death penalty is RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT.
What would you do to a person who takes away another innocent person's LIFE ? What has happened to the dictum THOU SHALT NOT KILL !
Or is it just that sanctity of life and human rights are applicable only to CRIMINALS !

"One REAPS, what one HARVESTS" or is it "Violence recoils upon the Violent"
