The average freelancer charges $75 an hour. However, since you are a college freshmen working for a yet to be established business...having the experience would be more valuable. If you are charging low, you want to establish with your client before hand that you are only going to take 1-2 revisions (meaning, if they don't like the logo, they get 1-2 more opportunities to request changes). But I think it is more important for you as a student to get that logo work, and experience, and to have a satisfied customer so that you can use this customer as future reference.
Some customers will find 100 too much for their budget. and some will secretly laugh and think youre charging too little...it depends on how much budget they have to spend on a logo design, and how established you are as a designer (obviously, more established...more moolah for the goods)

As every young designer knows, sometimes its not about the money. Its about being given the opportunity to show someone what we can do and create. :)

A good book for every graphic desinger is the "Graphic Artists Guild Handbook: PRICING and Ethical Guidelines" ($23. Used $19). I'm sure if your future upper level design classes, your teacher will make you guys buy this book...so you might as well get it now. It will include business contracts that every freelance artist should know of so that you protect your copyrights and your clients. It will also inform you of standard guidelines that we as artists should follow and practice so that nothing important is left to chance.
