Why does "slow down" and "slow up" mean the same thing?

Slow down means the same thing as slow up because both commands are telling you to slow down. If someone tells you to slow up you wouldn't go faster you would go slower. You would only go faster if someone told you to speed up which isn't the same as slow up.

Slow up is in the South and Slow down is in the North. That's just speach dear. We make it our own and personalize it. Weather it makes sense or not.

i think it's the principal slow the car down and slow up with the running and its about slowing your speed either way you go!-cheers!!!

slow down is right but slow up is slang. almost like wait up

slow up means proceed forward at a slightly faster speed.

slow down means you're driving too fast, reduce your speed

Good question, I have no idea other than it is an idiosyncrasy of English idiom.

I don't know anyone who says "slow up," and it sounds stupid to say it.

i don't think i've ever heard the phrase slow up. but one would think they mean the opposite! maybe slow up is ones way of saying wait up? i dunno, just a hunch
