The windows in some x-ray tubes, where the x-rays are emitted from, are made of beryllium. (It is relatively transparent to x-rays, and withstands the high voltage and high temperature that those tubes operate at.) But I don't suggest you buy an x-ray tube. Beryllium is extremely poisonous, and you don't want to fool around with it.

The gem stone known as beryl is a compound containing beryllium, and the most common ore for beryllium. The best known variety of beryl is the green gem called emerald. So that is a safe (if expensive) way of having a sample of a beryllium compound.

There will be an imprecise alignment of the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Saturn around that time. However, it will be a lot less precise than the alignment of the same 4 objects on March 21, 1894. That one was so precise that if we could have had a space telescope around Saturn and if that telescope had been pointed at the Sun, we would have observed two transits within a 24-hour period. Now THAT is an alignment. This means that the imprecise alignment of December 2012 will have even less impact on Earth than the 21 March 1894 syzygy (= alignment of 3 or more planets with the Sun) We already know that the Sun's usual 11-year cycle is on pause. Therefore the Solar Maximum is not expected before 2013. Also, it now looks like the maximum is going to be weaker than usual. Therefore, if you did not die during the last maximum (year 2000-2001) then you should survive this one quite easily. In number 4, you are referring to the geomagnetic storm of March 1989 when the magnetic pulse was detected by a 1,000 mile power line that acted as an antenna, and got charged up by the pulse. This created a power failure that kept power off for quite a few hours in the province of Quebec. Total number of deaths = 0. Their power distribution system is now protected against this kind of event.
