Gas Cap on my 1999 Toyota Camry is stuck closed... How do I open it?

A few days ago after I finished pumping gas and as I closed the gas cap, a little pin popped out "see -

I knew it came from somewhere by the gas cap but didn't see exactly where. I thought nothing of it, grabbed the pin and saved it. Today when I tried to pull up the little lever from under the seat to open the cap, it would not open. I tried to play around with it using a screwdriver, and pop it open, but I knew if I forced it it would break. Someone help, I need gas and can't open my gas tank.

You must be talking about the gas access door and not the actual gas cap. sometimes there is an emergency lever inside the trunk, do not know if the Camry has one, but check this first. Have you looked in the owners manual? Or called you Toyota dealer, they may help you over the phone. It appears that the cable connector came loose so when you pull the lever it does not pull back the pin closing the gas cap access door. If their is no emergency access you cloud try using and old credit card to slip in the side where the latch is. this may push locking latch back far enough to pop the door. It is flexible and plastic so should not damage anything if you do not try to force it.

If the pin came from under the seat then check where the lever under the seat attaches to the cable. If you cant put the connecting pin back then just grab the cable with a pair of plies and pull. This will open the door.

call a dealership the pin came out that holds the cable to the fuel door release latch .unless you know a realy good body mechanic that knows what to do to get it open to put the same pin or a new pin back in without damage .
