There are many organizations that are fighting that. Try googling it, and maybe you could support one with time or money.

Wow. I'm downright shocked at some of the stupidity in these answers. People who don't believe it happens, people who believe it's a 'valid cultural decision' to mutilate and torture little girls? For the ones who say it always happens in hospitals, done by a doctor now? No. It really isn't. Some - very few, in the whole of all who practice female 'circumcision' - have it done by a doctor. It is mostly done by 'elders' who have zero medical training and are simply used to perform this atrocity, though they sometimes do have access to surgical equipment. Very, very often, though, this is not the case, especially in African countries and tribes who practice it. There are certain rituals that take place, some including the girl resting against a rock and having parts her genitalia cut off against the rock. Sometimes there are ritual cutting instruments, yes, including pieces of glass, pieces of broken-sharp rock, or knives. Hygiene is rare in those cases especially, and it is not common at all for a girl to die of infection afterward. Some 'elders' don't even cut the parts away - they use whatever blade they're performing this with to SCRAPE the flesh away. There are a few ways that female 'circumcision' is performed. 1) Removal of the clitoris. This is not the most common. 2) Removal of the clitoris and inner labia. Slightly more common than #1. 3) Most common is removal of the clitoris, cutting away the inner labia, and sewing the vulva almost completely together, leaving a very tiny hole for urine and menstrual blood to leak through. When the girl is married, their husband has the right to RIP through this healed, tiny hole. After the girl gives birth, her vulva is re-sewn almost completely shut, and often leaving an even smaller hole, going back to the size she had before she was married. Why? To make sure that her husband has the pleasure of a tight woman, as if he were having a virgin again. These things are done for multiple reasons, also. Because some of the cultures believe that the clitoris could 'sting' the man and render him impotent. Or because if a woman feels pleasure during sex, they say that she'll be a whore. Or because a woman feeling pleasure during sex makes her undesirable and unclean. This is not made up by the media or outsider women. This information comes straight from women who have left, escaped, or been smuggled away from communities by their own female family members. It's hard to read, but it's even harder to hear from the mouths of women who have lived through the torture.

I wrote a paper on it in college. It's the most vile thing done to anyone male or female.

Since there are some who are unaware, for females, there are three types of circumcision:

1. Removal of the clitoral hood (prepuce)
2. Removal of the clitoral hood and clitoris (and sometimes labia minora)
3. Removal of the clitoral hood, clitoris, labia minora, labia majora, sewing of what's left together and leaving a tiny whole through which menstrual blood might flow. Some cases include scaring of the vaginal wall internally.

I find that any form of circumcision to be the most barbaric thing we do. There's not any informed consent of the child, and if it is it's coerced. For men, same thing, how dare any mother take an infant not a few days into this already harsh world and then, without anesthesia, shear off 20% of the nerves in the most sensitive area. Don't tell me it's for health, either. Getting back to females, though, it's far worse for them. It's a barbaric practice--all forms of genital mutilation are--and needs to be stopped.

I'd love to stop them with the barrel of a gun.

I know what you are talking about and it's horrible, There are groups that are trying to educate the people who do this that it is wrong. But they are up against religion and customs long entrenched in their society.

For those who don't know, a female "circumcision" is the cutting off of the clitoris with what is usually a non sterilized rusty razor blade or tin can top and with out anesthesia. Primarily done in north Africa. This is to prevent an orgasm when she gets older. So she has no reason to have sex out of wedlock. Kinda nice Huh!?!?!

How the heck do they circumcise a girl!?

Just did some research- it is also when they cut the girls clitoris off. God save those girls.

There are some organizations against it such as National Council for Childhood and Motherhood and the UN (including UNICEF. Try and see if you can get in touch with them.

Are you referring to Guniea? I just read about that today, I think on the Yahoo news. It's terrible and I hope they allow that poor girl to stay in this country so she doesn't have to go back and face having that done to h er. But this girl is 16 years old not 10. I think it's common in Africa. David Bowies wife had that done to her, too. It's a terrible thing and women should have the right to refuse it. they do that so the woman cannot have sexual pleasure and they think it will keep women from"straying."

Well, girls aren't circumcised. That's where they cut the forskin off a boys dangle. If you mean that they are being cut, well, that sucks. There is a foundation, but I'm not really sure what it's called. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

You might want to post this where its appropriate so that more people can direct you to organizations that are working to reeducate culture who practice this.

However, treating women as cattle, denying them education, basic necessities, using rape to terrorize, refusing to allow them the same basic equalities that men have has gone in certain cultures for generations, so don't expect alot of change.

Wait, maybe this is the right place.
