Sammie, I lived in Japan for a while when I was much younger. It was great. The Japanese are polite, well organized and hard workers.
It is true what Linda said, they do have beer in vending machines just like sodas here in this country. They also have Ramen soup vending machines just like coffee machines.
They also, like the English, drive on the left hand side of the road, as a result, the cars are right hand drive.
As land is so valuable in Japan, the bankers and real estate people have to issue 100 year mortgages. Many don't sign for these because that means putting a responsibility on their grandchildren.
I loved living in Japan, but I prefer to live here in America.

Fact 1: The Japanese school system is considered so substandard by parents that they regularly shell out huge amounts of money to have their kids re educated at cram schools after school! Fact 2: Japanese high school students are rapidly becoming some of the worst behaved, vacuous, anti social kids you'll find in Asia!! Fact 3: The Japanese as a whole, find it very difficult to get away from the idea that kids should be subjected to extreme, military styled drilling throughout their school life, which allows teachers to treat them like boot camp recruits and opens the door to abuse. Such as making a sports team run around the field naked for not performing up to the coaches expectations. Bonus fact: Education in Japan is a huge, mindless rat race, which instills an unnatural sense of competition in kids from kindy age. The basic progression is, get into a good kindy becuase this will get you into a good elementary school later. If you manage to get into a good elementary school, you are in a better position to get into a good junior high , and on and on until university. Upon graduation, you have the best chance of being hired by a big, famous company and joining the long grey ranks of anonymous salary men and women.

March 3rd is a traditional holiday in Japan to honor all women. Any girls born on that day are especially revered. I do not know if it is a national holiday or not, but it could be.
