Singapore is a lovely country. Depends on how old your kids are, really. I'd suggest going to Sentosa Island - definitely takes up to 1 day! The Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari! Shop around Bugis for good bargains, or China Town, Little India.. Orchard Road is famous for all the big malls. Hmm... if you're game and not from Asia, try local food! If you're from Asia, there's not way you're visiting and not trying the food! Chicken rice is good! Singapore Laksa, chilli crabs.... Bedok (the name of the place) has nice and cheap food. Near Changi Point at the food court, serves fantastic "nasi lemak". Good luck with your trip!

would recommend Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. its so near to Singapore. just 5 hours of bus journey. hotels in KL are relatively affordable as well. I stayed at pondok lodge when i went there for holiday. they have shopping centres and night markets as well. food is very cheap there, especially those 'mamak shops' or roadside stalls. Here are the estimated costs.

1)Bus Ticket: S$30 (one way)(if you buy from Johor Baru it can be cheaper by half price)(get the return ticket in KL cost about S$15)

2)Hotel: the one I stayed was for backpackers with shared facilities, cost: S$15per person per night.

3)Food: 3meals a day about S$10 or even lesser.

Total cost for one person is less than S$200 for 4days. (just an estimation) depending of what you eat and shopping you might need more or less

I suggest you look on the internet or guide books for more information. Or find out from travel agencies sometimes they have cheap packages for more people.

If you have more $$ to spend you might want to consider thailand, just few hours by air.

Enjoy your trip wherever it is. Cheers

Within Singapore, that will be Sentosa Island.

Cheaper options are :
Malaysia - Johor Bahru or Desaru
Indonesia - Bintan or Batam island

Would recommend Bangkok, Thailand. Relatively cheap to tour Bangkok, currency exchange at US$1=37 Bahts. Many flights (including budget airlines) from Singapore to Bangkok. Things to do in Bangkok? Depending on your interests, something for everyone. You'll be spoilt for choices - eating, entertainment, and SHOPPING! Many tourist attractions - historical temples, floating market, elephant trekking. Sleazy districts like Nana and Patpong etc. You'll enjoy, for sure :-)

LANGKAWI: Retired American policeman Randal Barnhart, who was subjected to a 2am raid by religious enforcement officers, is reconsidering his plan to make Malaysia his second home.

“After that unpleasant episode two weeks ago, I do not feel like making Malaysia my second home. It is a pity because both my wife and I really love Langkawi,” he said.

On Oct 12, Barnhart, 62, and his wife Carole, 61, were in their rented condominium in Kuah when enforcement officers continuously knocked on their door at 2am, accusing them of committing khalwat (close proximity).

He said the officers demanded to see his marriage certificate, although he had told them that they were Christians and should not be subjected to Islamic law.

They felt humiliated by the raid by religious enforcement officers in Langkawi recently.
“We find it difficult to forget the unpleasant episode. My wife was so terrified by the incident that she fears sleeping in that condominium,” he added.

Banhart said the officers were rude and insisted on “seeing the woman” when he opened the door.

“My wife had to show herself despite only having a sarong on at that time. We felt humiliated for being treated this way,” he said.

He said he had to send his wife back to the United States on the next available flight because she feared people might return to the condominium to terrify her in the middle of the night.

She flew home on Wednesday.

“I want the religious department to apologise to me and my wife in writing,” he added.

“I also want the department to compensate the RM4,315 I had to pay for the return ticket so that my wife could go home.”

Banhart said he would be sailing to Thailand once his yacht was repaired.
