I like to make a "gift basket". I go to Walmart or Target and buy a wicker "moses" basket (oval shaped and long) to fill with diapers ("newborn" or Size 1), wipes and baby shampoo. Also, you can purchase cloth diapers in the baby section as well. They make the BEST spit-up rags. She's gonna need a LOT of those! Get creative and just pick out little odds and end things from the baby section. Later, she can use the basket for the baby's laundry. Also, if you can afford it pick up a little something for mom such as some nice bubble bath or a bath pillow. Something that will remind her that she's still a beautiful woman even after the "ick" of going through child birth. Yes, it's a beautiful experience, but that doesn't mean it's not disgustingly messy!

The best gift you can give a new mom is a new dad that knows what he is doing. Problem is...most books for dads are preachy and bore American dads to death.
The best baby shower gifts I've seen come from a company called Dr.MOZ. Their gift CD-ROM teaches new dads baby skills and lots of other tools, all set to a popular American mobster parody (the Godfather). Very fun, and the dad probably won't be given much if anything, so it is a bonus to think of the new dad during the gift giving.

I wouldn't say that he'll need to be a "computer guy" but if you know for sure he doesn't like anything to do with computers, you could get one of their shirts that looks pretty cool as well.

Other new dad gifts include Diaper Dude bags which I've seen online at: http://www.pokkadots.com/babyclothes/Diaper-Dude-Camo-Diaper-Bag.html

a babybook is always nice.. most of the time a mom to be will register so check to see if she has and that will help alot. Otherwise you can never have enough diapers or wipes. Baby clothes... maybe some gifts cards so she can pick up things the baby will need that she didn't get or save for later when the baby grows out of all those clothes. Have fun shopping!

I always give books, usually a couple of board books and a couple of nice hardcover picture books. I know they aren't useful right away, but I like starting an infant's literature collection as early as possible. And at the shower, the mom will get a thousand cute outfits and other supplies; something different always stands out.
Some of my favorite books: "Goodnight Gorilla," "Where's Spot?," "Dear Zoo," "Moo, Baa, La, La, La," "The Going to Bed Book," "Guess How Much I Love You," (All Board Books) "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," "A is for Salad," "What Do People Do All Day," "Click, Clack, Moo," "Some Dogs Do" (Hardcovers). Good luck; whatever you end up buying will be appreciated!

Is the mother registered somewhere? If so, go to the place where she is registered and get her something off her list. If not, honestly, any basics are great. Diapers, wipes, baby shampoo, etc. All the stuff that the parents have to buy often. Have fun at your first shower!!!

The present I have been provided that i assumed became actual appropriate and a lifesaver is the medela pump in form. It took some time for toddler to latch on so I pumped till then. It became a super soreness relief! that's somewhat costly however. while you're on the cheap, i might make her a basket of candies and issues like socks, pacifiers, teethers, diapers, wipes, toddler spoons, etc. or you're able to do a topic matter for occasion if she's breastfeeding make her a basket with nipple cream, nursing pads, bottles, nipples etc. wish this helps

diapers are always good as a mom of a 3 month old somethign that I have and LOVE is a Boppy pillow if the mom is planning on breast feeding she can use it for support but what i use it for is my baby gets drainage in her throught and will cough so i can prop her up in it as the baby grows she can use it to sit in as she is learning to sit. I am inclosing the website for the original Boppy but the one i have is the off brand from wal mart and it works just fine the one from walmart comes with an extra starp to kepp baby from slipping out that i dont think the name brand has you can check the registry if the parents are registered whatever you buy buy a little something extra for the mom to pamper herself with.

Honestly a great thing is to ask the parents what they might NEED. Not what they want. Alot of people will buy clothes or toys. If you take the time and ask, it shows you really care about how the new parents are feeling and that you care for the baby as well.

I think that a swaddling blanket would be a nice gift or a gift certificate to a baby store that has formula and diapers. I actually gave a gift card to the mother to be one time and told her to pamper herself once the baby came.

I had that dilemma one time. I looked and looked for the perfect gift. I finally ended up getting baby powder, shampoo, lotion, etc. They can use that throughout their lifetime. IF not , their parents will always use it. When it comes to diapers and things, different parents like different diapers so it's hard to know what to buy and powder, shapoo, etc is much cheaper. You can actually get twice as much as if you bought diapers.
